Chugoku

Chugoku is a region located in the western part of the island of Honshu. It includes the following five prefectures: Hiroshima, Okayama, Shimane, Tottori, and Yamaguchi.

The region can be roughly divided. The heavily industrialized and urbanized along the Seto Inland Sea is called the Sanyo Region. Here you can find many of its largest cities like Hiroshima. The more rural area is found on the northern part of Chugoku along the Sea of Japan coast. It is called Sanin Region.

The Chugoku region has a lot to offer to tourists. There are many tourist attractions that are worth visiting and many things worth experiencing.

You can visit a big city like Hiroshima. There you can learn a lot about the city and its history. Make sure to visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Nearby you can visit the island of Miyajima, famous for shrines, temples, deer, hiking trails, and the famed torii gate in the sea.

Maybe you want to explore the rural areas like the Daisen mountain or the Tottori sand dunes.
